Default Singer 600e stitches not working...HELP!

I just bought a Singer 600e off Craigslist and when I did a quick test, it worked well. I cleaned and oiled it and read the manual. I tried out the decorative stitches, and they don't work. I oiled the gears for the stitch selectors in the hopes that it was just stuck, but still nothing. The selectors move fine, but I can't get anything but a straight and zigzag stitch. Did anyone else have this problem, or know how to fix it? I really want to sew scallops Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The needle bar might be gunked up (scientific term:>). Use Triflow and clean all areas well, focusing on the needle bar area. You may have to heat it up with a hair dryer to get it to release.

This makes me feel really dumb....but I just didn't have the stitch length to 20. Thanks for taking the time to reply though!
