Thanks. I'm expecting to do this very slowly with notes, marks, taping screws onto plates and covers, taping screws to diagram of machine for location pictures and a slow crawl through the video as I go.

Definitely more complex to me than a small engine carburetor....

I had a 626 Touch n Sew and used it for years and years. Hubby replaced the gears and it was not a big job and not expensive. The hardest part was convincing Singer to order the gears for us. This was before Ebay etc. I loved the machine but finally gave it to a teen age girl who had bought a cheap machine at Walmart and was having lots of trouble with it. Since I have several other machines, I really didn't need it anymore. Now I'm spoiled with needle threaders! Having said that I do love my featherweight and 201, it's just my eyes are getting old!

That's the best way to approach it.
I think a small engine carb and a sewing machine - as far as the gears is likely pretty similar in difficulty rating. The SM is way less stinky thus less offensive if you rebuild it in the house too. *she says from experience*

I think those cheap machines are responsible for so many people thinking they can't sew.
That's a good thing you did there.

You know, they make some really good after market needle threaders. I think it's Fons and Porter who even makes a lighted one.

This sewing machine is filthy dirty.

It doesn't look like it's ever been cleaned.

Usual lint and whatnot and I don't believe disintegrating broken gear dirt helps any.

I wiped mildew off the outside already.

The intensive cleaning it needs will probably be harder than replacing the gears really...

I have one that is VERY clean. Someone must have sprayed it down - melted all the gears.

That's the case for nearly every machine I service or rehabilitate. The only exception so far is the Gritzner I bought seized solid that still doesn't want to come free.
