Default Suggestions Needed for Cleaning 306W

Just received a very filthy and thankfully dead bug sewing machine. It has a crinkle finish. Any suggestions how and what to clean on this? Both inside and out? My experience is limited to cleaning and restoring a 185k to working order. Thanks,
    Carol

Im thinking there is a thread here about a SINGER 119, cleaning and restoring it wo working order. These are very similar machines. Search SINGER 119 if I can find it I’ll link it if the link works.

I found velvety microfiber cloths rather effective, and a soft tooth brush to get into the crinkles. I used mild water and soap on my machine and case. I don't think crinkle finishes are shellac, but some type of enamel paint. they stand up to a general cleaning, but don't leave any dampness on the surface, used well wringed cloths and swirly motions.

Are you sure it's a 306? I have never seen these in crinkle finish at all; black, beige and two tone brown/beige, but all smooth and with and shiny. Some times the finish can be very dirty and worn, it often cleans up well though.

All 3 SINGER 306 machines I’ve ever seen were crinkle finish.

You have more crinkles and potted motors, I'm so envious of the potted motors ;- ) A few crinkles turn up here too, and I am on the look for a potted motor.

Thank you both so much. Definitely crinkle finish but I think it has grease all over it and don't think either sewing machine oil or mild soap is going to cut through the grime. Miriam thanks for the link, didn't think to look for the 319.

Go to the Dollar store and look for a product called LA Totally Awesome. It's the best grease remover I've ever found. Faster than Dawn dish soap in some instances. Non toxic, and even diluted it works very well.

Now I'm really excited, I live across the street from the dollar store. First stop tomorrow.

Make sure you get the correct needles and bobbins for this machine. They take a unique needle and bobbin. You
need the book on the machine to see that. If you use standard 15x1 needles you will damage the bobbin case.
Don't try and modify it to use 15x1 needles just get the right needles. You can't get them in stores but can get
    them online.
