Default Thread size of the thumb screws.

I have been tying to locate screws that can be used to mount kenmore machines into a table. The Size of the threads are not standard metric. Best I can come up with is there are something like a 5mm with a .90 pitch thread. Any one have information about the screws used. I've been all over the internet with no luck. Help Please
Don the frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome.

I can't help with the actual size and pitch and tpi. I'm going to guess that you are referring the set screws for the hinge pins. I'm thinking that the set screws are fairly universal for flat bed machines. From my understanding there are some machines that had different size holes for the hinge pins, but I thought the set screws were the same. These would also be needed for a portable bases.

https://shop.sew-classic.com/Screw-H...?categoryId=-1 (Not affiliated with link) has a picture of the set screw and location at the back base of the machine.

If you talking about the screws in the base of the machine that lock onto the hinge pin, they’re probably 1/4-28, a common fine thread imperial. The pitch is 0.03571 inches, according to Machinery’s Handbook, which would be close to your 0.90 pitch in millimeters. Be careful, we also have a 1/4-20, which is more common, but a much coarser thread. If I get to the shop in the next day or so I’ll try to grab a thread gage and measure a screw on my Kenmore. Like Janey said, I think they’re pretty standard, at least in the American market.

My favorite machine repair person calls the screws "Grub Screws". Don't know if that will help the search on the internet.
