Default Vintage New Home 8F

I was visiting a relative this evening and she brought out her grandmothers sewing machine to identify. As best I can tell, it is a New Home 8F. It has a greenish crinkle finish, vibrating shuttle, looks to be a 3/4 head, very heavy and a motor that appears to be gear driven as there is no visible belt. I looked all over it with a flashlight and cannot locate a serial number. Most of my machines are Singers and I'm not very familiar with New Home. Can anyone tell me more about this machine?

Now that I've backed off and looked at the photo I see it is not a gear driven motor but has a rubber ring that presses against the balance wheel to turn it.

Joyce,

The "8F" is the motor number I believe, not the machine model number. However I'm not up on New Homes either.

Nice machine though.

Does it still sew?

I like the looks of that machine. I have a brown crinkle White Rotary with the system where the wheel runs against a roller of some sort, just like yours. Joe, what do they call that system?

Kitsy,

That rubber piece on the end of the motor shaft is called a motor pulley. The whole system is called a friction drive.

I wonder why they call it a "motor pulley" when it's not really a pulley at all. It's a drive wheel. Always wondered that.

Joe,

I've wondered about that too. When I order from the wholesale house 'motor pulley' is the name those thingies go by.
