Default What the heck is this tool??

Found this in one of the cabinet drawers of the 66 treadle I just brought home. I am sure it is NOT a sewing tool but then what? It reminds me of some vintage drafting tools I have.....could it be a part of some type of drafting tool? The one end has lead. The small knurled piece in the middle unscrews and also appears to tighten and loosen tension to the pointy two piece tip....inquiring minds want to know.
and there is that hole all the way through in the scored portion.

jim do you think one end was pencil and the other for ink? It is pretty big tip for ink and widely separated. It looks like on that knurled knob it has a tiny tip so you could draw circles and that anchors to your paper?

Ah huh. That's pretty much what I thought SteveH. I have a vintage hand drafting set (tucked somewhere) and I thought I remembered it looking similar.

I've got at least three of them now - so for what ever reason, it seems to be not that uncommon for it to end up in with the sewing tools. Maybe it got used for drawing patterns . . .

thats interesting! Kind of an odd tool to to consistently find it in with the sewing tools. It does make sense they would use it as a marking tool but it seems pencils would be more commonly handing. Lol.

The end where the knob is looks like it has a pencil lead in it.
