This is very similar to the one I learnt on at my grandmother's farm. Just sit and practise treadling without any thread in the machine, and once you get an even rhythm up you can then start putting a piece of practice material through - still without thread in the machine, and as you don't stop your rhythm or become less jerky in your movements, you can thread it and play to your heart's content. My gran actually had me sewing on paper first. She inspected the needle holes to see if I was staying on the lines she'd drawn. Then I advanced to swirls and circles. I was 7 when we did this and can still remember the experience. Have fun!

What a beautiful surprise for you! I've got one almost identical to yours, just haven't had enough courage to get it going yet.

I'm green with envy. Before I got into seriously sewing(quilts do that)I had 2 treadles come into my possession and let them leave without a thought. Treadles are great leg workouts. Plus you can still keep sewing when the power goes out. Or you can take it outside to sew in nature. Oh and all other number of things.
