That machine will sew through a 1" stack of leather, which by most measures would be very rigid indeed.

I work with heavy leather a LOT. for my leather 1" is 4 layers to as many as 8. it still has more give to inertia than wood. it why wood "breaks" and leather does not.

Steve,

I agree! I don't know of ANY sewing machine that was intended to sew through plywood! I cannot understand why anyone would want to sew plywood! As my Mom used to say, God rest her soul, stupidity grows!

Well, I think whatever he's subjected it to, it's a beauty. Bet it would zip through leather and denim like a dream....I would love one.

If it was a solid piece of wood, I would agree, but plywood has a different structure than a solid piece of wood.

Here is a link to an article about some folks that sew wood into furniture.

Leather, even a thick stack, isn't rigid like plywood. The individual leather fibers will flex enough to get out of the way for the needle to pass thru. Wood fibers, whether solid or plywood, don't have that same degree of flexibility. Instead of parting around the needle, the needle is essentially breaking thru it.
Maybe somewhere there is an application where wood needs to be sewn but I can't think of it.
I'm pretty sure that while the machine can handle thick leather all day every day, sewing plywood would soon do serious harm to the machine.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Not condoning the act, but today's plywood isn't anything like the old stuff. Just saying.

Of course the wood would part around the needle, or the needle wouldn't go through the plywood.

Do you think a nail punches a plug out of a piece of wood when it goes through?
