I have alway wanted to learn foundation paper piecing, so we are going to learn together. Patrice has been kind enough to redesign these patterns to make 12" blocks and designed the Spider Web Star to be FPP (foundation paper pieced). Thank you, Patrice!! :D I owe ya. There are two blocks so you can choose what you like. I hope you try them both.
It is a lot easier than it looks, once you get the principle. Here is a link to help you get started.

Patrice will attach the blocks to the next message down.

well, alrighty then. off we go.

remember ... all of this is waaaay easier than it looks. the only tricky thing about paper piecing (PP) is learning to work upside down because the fabric is under the paper, while you are sewing along the lines on top. the finished block will be a mirror image of what you see on the paper. if you look at the first set of general PP instructions Norah points to, you'll see what i mean.

here is the first block Norah picked. It's called Spider Web Star. The McCalls instructions use templates, but it's easily done using PP. Even though it's easy, You will feel like SUCH a pro when you're done.

if you want a bit of a challenge, try the other block. A bit trickier, but still not as difficult as the finished product might appear. This one was designed for PP but can also be done without too much trouble using templates.

these are the kinds of blocks i love. they help us realize how talented we already are. (anything that good for my ego gets my vote. LOL)

the "Bonus File" has the links to all the blocks so far, plus PP patterns and templates for both of Norah's choices to help you make either one using either method in either a 12" or 8" finished block. I think you'd have to be nuts to make either one from rotary cuts, but if you reeeeelly want to, i'll throw together the cutting instructions for anybody who asks.

by the way ... i think i left out a piece of very important information about the 12" paper piecing pattern for the Cabbage Rose. it has to be printed on LEGAL sized paper and ... as always ... with page scaling turned off.

the same is true for the 12" Spider Web Star paper piecing pattern.

sooooo, either print the whole file on legal paper, or print the long pages separately on legal and the rest on letter.

clear as mud?

Remember ... everybody who takes a turn choosing for us will do it their own way. Make what you like; skip what you don't. Post pictures of your blocks if you want to; don't if you don't. It's all free of charge and free of obligation.

You don't have to be on the list to participate. The list is just folks who've lined up for a turn to pick. If you want to be added to the list, let us know and we'll make it happen.

It's for fun, fun, fun!!! (and a little learning from time to time)
:P

Norah,
Way cool blocks. I love paper piecing and can hardly wait to see how my pink fabrics interpret that cabbage rose. I may have to ditch the pink and make the star out of my patriotic fabrics. It'll make a neat mini-banner for Memorial Day, don't you think?
Good job, Norah!
:D

There's plenty already to keep an industrious person busy.

then again, I can pick some for you if you want to pretend you're as far "behind" as you originally thought.
