Judy's 3rd MYSTERY QUILT train ride

update on my quilt it day. I put it on the floor in the spare room, tried pinning from a stand no good wormed myself down to the ground. Pinned. everything seemed ok. I cant get up from floor on my own. Called the Dh to come pick me up please (via phone he works in the park where we live) and so while waiting I trim the excess backing off except for 2 inches on all sides. great! he picks me up (he calls it towing service want a lift? disability means if I am on the floor I stay on the floor) ok.. sew the first seam! yeah its great. Sew second flip the quilt shooot its bunched a bit. Take out the entire seam. repin. Sew it worked. sew another seam it works. then flip totally the quilt for a full view of it. OMG. I did not have the back pinned on straight prior to trimming the sides off. I now have an off kilter back with stripes going at a 20 degree angle. But not a pretty way at all. I wanted to cry. I walked away. I had to its still on the table.I had pieced the back because I did not have wide backing nor enough fabric to make it without piecing. so its a Christmas gift. has to leave here Monday am with DH. So.. do I tear it all out and invent a new back? do I sew it together and just say oh well yeah sure I meant it to look that bad.. ugh I dunno what to do. trade you for yours thats the ticket I wll take that pretty one just posted. can you get it here by Sunday?

Oh Elisabrat... I feel your pain. I just finished a quilt for a gift. Without boring you with the details, everything went wrong. My simple D9P did not turn out like what I had planned in my head. (I used toile in the main squares on the front and pieced the back in toile too.) The last straw was while I was machine quilting, I saw I had put my backing on upside down. The back toile pictures were upside. Blah. The funny thing is, I finished it anyway and the new owner LOVES it. ... Can you finish yours with your back? Maybe they'll think you planned it that way too?

Elisabrat...........I too am so sorry for your dilemma. I know it is heart breaking to get so far done & have a mishap. Take a deep breath & think about it tomorrow. Maybe a great idea will come to you!!
Here is a picture of two of the blocks of my quilt. I will not be getting to putting it together until sometime in January. I have to admitt that I am not sure what to do with is, as I don't think the color's are going to go together as I have thought they would. I am going to have to put my thinking cap on & see what I can come up with!!

Cheryl, put together a couple more blocks, you might be surprised how much it will change. The purple Ws will really pop, and I think you may be pleasantly surprised.
Elisa, so sorry to hear about your dilemma. Hate when stuff like that happens! You work so hard and then bam, an unwelcome surprise..

sheri thanks for the pat on the back.. sorry you had as much fun as I am having. I just quilted down two more rows needed my morning cup of coffee and then back to getter' done. It is what it is.
Sula bug love the blocks did you finish them all or just do two samples. Only issue I see is the background squares of the one on the right are pale enough to get sorta lost in the quilt but maybe a few together if you have them would show better how it will end up. I say if you have made them use them. And did you see what Jan (Jaba) did? she broke it up into two quilts and was so much happier with hers. Mine is sticking together. lol It has to now that I have started the quilting from hell project. I was a bit sad all those hours made it pretty darned well points and all and now.. the back crooked. oh well. lessons learned are good things as long as you dont repeat them. This one.. a hard lesson. I will post pics tonight when i get there. ok time to finish that coffee and hit the machine again. (started at 5:20 a.m.)

Elizabrat...I am so sorry about your quilt. I don't know what I would do, especially since it is a planned Chistmas present. But I do thank you for posting your problem, because I am going to be extra careful when putting quilts together in the future, and hopefully (fingers crossed) learn from you. I'm up here in the observation car, just loving all these quilts. This was a great pattern.

"Brat" think of all the different ways people do the back of quilts, strips, random pieces sewn together until it's big enough, big blocks.....No one says it can't be slanted! I really don't think anyone would notice, it WAS planned that way. Your "giftee" doesn't sew or quilt, don't know why she wouldn't like it.
