JanRN...I like the compass star blocks but they are 12 inches finished. I really like the new one the Q on the Sq has now which is the 14x16 size. They just posted the fourth block last week.

QuiltingNinaSue 07-11-2013 05:44 AM

Yes,, GG, I am following your postings of Q the SQ and downloading them into my computer...when to do is not yet...too many other things going on. My latest square in 18 inches that I am doing.

I also follow the Elm Creek series and would purchase if Electric Quilt or Soft Expressions came up with a CD there. But I dream on as I do the 'necessary' work of the day before I can play.

Ggal, I've downloaded the new series from QOTS and like the odd size blocks, too. They look difficult but I was looking at them closely and they break down into doable sections.

I also have Syvia's Bridal Quilt. I took one look at that and altho it's lovely, I had flashbacks to FWS & PC. Looking forward to a new challenge.

I've been doing a few Pam Bono blocks and I've run into the same problem with all my blocks. When I use a scant 1/4" seam, the points don't line up. If I use a regular 1/4" seam, the block comes out too small. Anyone else tried these blocks? Anyone else have this problem? I appreciate all your help.

I started DJ about 10 years ago and did several blocks and also one of the border triangular ones... this was my first appept at pping and did it with freezer paper that I cut to fit in the printer...I cut the spine off the book and put it in a binder...so that I could print the patterns without any distortions....I've seen a whole quilt done in bright batiks with black throughout....it was very striking.....my fingers were alot straighter and much thinner then..:D I don't know if I could do a 4 " block anymore...some of the pieces are tiny!!!!

I haven't beenable to get online since yesterday morning....

MiraB ... So ......... does this mean you and DD will both do DJ with us? Would be so nice to get to have her join in! I think your solution is easy ... Sylvia and her Beau have had a spat, and the wedding plans are on hold. You can set it aside til you know for sure that the wedding is really going to happen! :D I was thinking of your shoulder and "wait" last night while I was FMQing and working my shoulder into conniptions! Ergonomics probably play apart in your injury, or ease of continuing. Any possibility that you can get an Occupational Therapy assessment to help you figure out how to endure and carry on? Likewise, I'm thinking because of the injury they are not providing any physio in the meantime? or is it possible? I haven't quite got the best ergonomics figured out with my new machine and table yet. I had it sorted out with my old set up, now to work on this one!

CarrieM ... Great to see you are going to DJ it too! :) I've pretty much decided on blues with cream or white. Not sure. Of course, that could all change between now and when I start this winter.

GGal ... yes, I have not given applique a fair chance yet. Now with this, I'll be into it deep ... and if it's too deep, then I'll jump out of that water!! After all I did the two in FWS that were applique! :)

JanRN ... do you suppose that GGal was talking to you and me? And to think you bought DJ! :D We'll be doing it together in the nursing home! :D

JeanieG ... yes yes DJ! ... and yes, you can adjust the size.

QOS ... while a rectangle, they are a hex with the corner pieces to make the rectangle. I really like those patterns, and I would probably wait to add those wings, after I had the blocks made to see what went best with them. I hope we are going to do these as a group! Please? Pretty Please?

QNSue ... another DJ!

Honchey ... You should never have told us that you started DJ, way back. I'll forget about that ... and just let you WOW us with your blocks as you post them! :D

QuiltingNinaSue 07-11-2013 03:04 PM

I was told that in DJ blocks, you post to her site and you earn certificates to be a 'little jane'....and so on as you finish blocks. And you can make them any size you want, so they don't have to be four inches or six inches. Barbara B. made a DJ for the President of the USA in red, white and blue and gave it to him when her DJ pattern first came out.

Sorry, Honchey, you are having problems getting on line. Check your security system, it may be at fault. Dd helped me out last night, straightening out the graphics after the Microsoft download that caused the problem.

Cooler here, but staying inside. Dh was outside when the Mo.Dot Tractor/mower came by mowing the ditches long side of the highway, so he chose to stand in front of the orange lilies in the ditch so the guy would not mow them down. The guy did not, but dh said that he thought the guy was laughing as he mowed his way on. Been enjoying wilted lettuce raised by a good neighbor and given to us. Did not start a grease fire this time.

Baby keets are happy little guys almost quick enough to catch the flies coming into their area. In the newsletter from the Iowa hatchery, they were selling four week old chicks, mainly female, for $16 or $17 dollars each...ship as few as you wanted to order. Roasting hens are selling for $7 to $8 live on the farm...that's a big difference in price. How times has changed!! During depression days, full grown hog was selling for fifty cents.

Honchey 07-11-2013 04:01 PM

I just downloaded the last 3 of the 4 blocks of QOS...I really like these blocks ...they are so different...And only one a month!

I Only did about 9 blocks of the DJ...the freezer paper stuck to the fabric on them....The 4" size are real cute...if I ever do start again I would use batiks with the black thruout...EQ7 had the DJ software on sale....I've learned so much about pping in the last 3 1/2 years it might be easier the second time around....

So guys what's it going to be and when do we start...Just let me know...

QuiltingNinaSue 07-11-2013 05:27 PM

Dear Jane official internet site is http://www.dearjane.com

The choice is between QOS and Der Jane? Wow. Ambitious goal either way.

Honchey 07-11-2013 06:02 PM

I would really prefer to do the QOS...I don't think I'd last too long doing the DJ..It really is am ambitious endeavor and I know I'll fall by the wayside....
All of you think about this....we do the QOS and whoever wants to do the DJ can do it on the side and have a show & tell with the progress...who knows??? we might all join in after all the oohs & aahs!!

We have to wait for all the others to chime in and give their yays or nays!!!:)

QuiltE 07-11-2013 07:14 PM

Honchey ... I agree with your thoughts. I really like the QOS rectangles ... something totally different than we have been doing. And sure hope that we can do them as a group. I love seeing the different interpretations

As for DJ, I know for me, it's something that I will not be able to do, unless I am in the right "zone" ... and that will likely come and go. Having the support of the group will mean a lot to me, to continue on, or get back to it!! Certainly I don't want the pressure of deadlines for DJ. Plus, I can see everyone having a different strategy of how to go at the blocks .... i.e. row by row, hopscotching ....... or for me, I'm thinking of starting in the centre and working out, to make it easier to work on my colour scheme (if I go with what I am thinking, right now!)

Plus ... I know not everyone in this group is wanting to do DJ ... and to me, it's more important to keep this group together!!!

I've been back at my Out to Pastures. Quilting has been going faster than I thought it might. However, I chickened out on super-fancy stuff and stuck with straight line and stipple/meanders. More certainty on the results. Need more , practice-practice-practice for the fancy-schmancy things! :D
