Tacky for sure. I have bought books as gifts but didn't give into that temptation. One can tell when the spine is bent.

You are a clever girl, Bella - not sure she'll get the hint though.

The gift exchanges that I've been part of have had a limit of $15.00 Any amount up to that $15.00 was all right to spend, but it was definitely considered bad form to spend more than $15.00. This was to keep someone from being embarassed because their gift did not cost as much as someone else's gift. It never meant you had to spend $15 on a gift. But to use the gift before you give it is really tacky - I guess you should just be glad she didn't give you a bar of soap or a hanky!

It sounds like she is clueless and may not understand exactly what she has done. When you give it back, what you plan to say will give her a lot to think about.

Very tacky....and to think she bragged about it....that was even tackier. Even if I had even thought about reading it, I would not have told everyone that is what I did.

That was tacky. At work we have decided to give "Re-gifted" gifts. or Trash-Tasket gifts. Some of the folks are not able to purchase anything else this budget year; so let's be creative and "re-gift" on purpose. I am thinking I need to thin out my coffe cups.....

Thumbs down

Now the re-gifting trash gifts I could live with....as long as that was what was agreed on to start with. It even sounds like fun.
My daughter was telling me tonight that someone brought one of those small glade candles that had already been burned, (plus it had a dead fly in it) to their church party.

I don't know...maybe I'm just different....but as much as I wouldn't tell others that my family and I had read the book after purchasing it for a gift....I probably wouldn't tell other's what she had said.

Granted, that was a bit tacky...but at least she was "honest. I know that when I read a hardcover book that comes with it's jacket..I always remove the jacket while reading it..and since I go through books rather fast, when I sent it to my step-father he would always ask if I had read it because it looked brand new.

As I mentioned...I would never have said anything....either as a receiver or giver. That's not really very kind.
