He shaved it because that was an agreement he made with the Everyone group of hackers in order to get their help. They always exact some kind of payment.
And I hate it that I even know that... obviously too much TV for me.

On another note, if you like Benedict Cumberbach, there is a wonderful mini series titled Parade's End (HBO Go) which is a wonderful slice of life pre WW1, and through his life. He is an aristocrat with a not so nice wife and a a friendship with a young suffragette.
Element is a really good show, fast passed and interesting story line. Bald or not BC is wonderful as Sherlock.
