Smile Any rewards from QB for dedication?

I open Quilting Board every day to enjoy what others do and say and tutorial-but the time it takes has frustrated me to no end. My computer and programs are only a year old and since last November I have had nothing but problems. I do a lot of photograph and would have problems e mailing photos, opening Quilting Board threads, (I would click on one and then get a message that I had to "recover" and then I would revert back to the original and if it worked, click on what I wanted originally. It took me sometimes an hour to "read" the board. I have Norton, a cleaning system and not one thing works. Finally, I got smart yesterday and called Microsoft help line and got a tech and he told me I had 4600 things that were slowing my computer among other things and it multiplied every time I opened my computer. I elected to have them fix it. The estimated 45 minutes and it took longer, BUT my computer works so well I cannot believe it and they added more safeguards, etc. I have gone from near breakdown to "Singing in the Rain". Now I can go from frustrating dedication to the Quilting Board to dedicated enjoyment of it. I am writing this so in anyone had this problem it may help them. Do I get a star?

Yes, a star! Glad you got your computer under control. I had trouble a couple of years ago, to the point where I had to have a computer forensic company figure it out. Long story short, a virus was brought in from Facebook (never let someone else use your computer). It was set up to activate when I logged onto my online banking. I could have lost everything, thousands of dollars since I just deposited bucu bucks to buy a new luxury car. This virus was sent to affect several banking institutions, and the company that found it worked with the FBI and the forensic company to stop it. This could have been devastating to the banking industry as it was intended to go through the user (me) to the bank and then to other accounts, emptying those accounts. Norton and mcafee both failed, and in fact they both failed to stop any viruses that were deposited. I changed to a free Microsoft program and have had no problems since. I do use my apple products for banking, just in case.
Glad your back into the fast lane!

This is why I enjoy this group because so much can be shared to such a wide base. No matter how careful we are there are just so many ways we can't imagine. The biggest problem is discovering how to fix or prevent it. This board can help by others sharing.

Jetayre - Yay for you! You must be having so much more fun on here now. May I ask? Did Microsoft fix your computer over your connection or did they send a technician?

Bneighbor - that is pretty darn scary! Glad you didn't get robbed!

GHOSTRIDER---Would you please tell me the name of that star block--I love it!!!! And yes, many of you deserve stars for the info on this board--I spend a couple hours a day reading everything instead of putting the ideas to use on some quilting--but at least I have the info if I need it someday.

That is why you need to run disk cleaner and defrag on a regular basis. If you go to your start menu click on programs..then accessories then system tools. There is a disk cleaner and defrag run those. Pc Matic works well too

I, too, spend a lot of time reading these entries every day--and am going to save this one for my daughter to clean up my computer tomorrow. There is so much that I don't know about a computer; and ignorance is not bliss in this case. I hate that I can't do so many things that I would love to be able to do.....Thank you one and all.

I did all that and it was a no go. They had to do more. They added some things that would protect and clear for the future.
