When I was younger I used to think you could - husband, kids, pets, job, house, extended family.

Now, not so much.

Now, even with older kids, husband long gone, down to 2 cats, both kids and 7 mo gs, job, house, and immediate family, I still don't have enough time.

I decided to pick one main thing and get good at it and forget the others. Like, if I want to sell hand made items, it can't be baby quilts and doll clothes and handbags, it has to be one thing, otherwise, they will not be good enough. There seems to be, in my world anyway, not a lot of time to sew so that's my new plan.

Do you feel the same way? Please, someone say yes! :?

i doubt that i can narrow things down to one, but i have definitely limited the number of things i think i can handle at one time :)

Find a market for a product, and you'll be too busy to "make everything". A long time ago I read about a family looking to farm something. All the farmers around them, in general, were struggling to make a living. They found the restaurants locally needed fresh parsley. Voila! Their calling!

I'm retired now and don't know how I found enough time to ever go to work. Not sure if its because I'm interested in more things or just that it takes me longer. I'm very much a newbie at quilting so interested in trying all sorts of things but I can see that if you are going to sell what you make you might want to specialise. But there is sense in making a small variety so that you reach a wider market.
Maybe a variety of small projects that are not too time consuming so that you can perfect your skills in a relatively short time.

When I was younger I could juggle, kids, ball games, daycare mommies, volunteer work, hubby (although sometimes he was on the bottom of the totem pole, now he is at the top!!) and part time work along with the mowing and housekeeping and laundry.................................But now I limit myself to one or two things at a time.

There just doesn't seem to be enough time in the day to get everything done you want to do.

Yes, either not enough planning or just getting older.

Makes me wonder how tired those who lived in the 1800's were, toiling with cooking three meals and running the farms all day, day after day. Today we have it so much easier and we still get worn out!

I remember doing "it all" when I was younger. Now I find it harder to just keep up with home and 1 child without trying to maintain a career.

Yup. As a "younger" quilter, I'm just turning the corner from trying to be all things to all people, and just doing what *I* love. Sometimes that is helping others, but as they say, if momma ain't happy, ain't NOOOOOBODY HAPPY!

I too when I was younger I was able to work nights, study during the day and went to school kept the kids cooked, cleaned, etc.. with no help. Today, I focus on on a few things at a time, such as work, because I have too, and work hard to perfect my quilting .
