I seem to be having another round of bursitis in my left hip. I wonder if anyone has useful advice on easing the discomfort of this condition, other than the prescription anti-inflamatories the doc. has me on. It is simply miserable.

I don't have bursitis but I do have arthritis in both my sacro-iliac joints (the bit that hangs your leg bones off the rest of you). When I sleep (usually on my side) I put a pillow between my knees, this relieves pressure on your hip. It may help, my sister-in-law has a back problem and she does this too. I custom made my pillow to get the right "plumpness" ....hand appliqued and quilted of course:)

My doctor shoots some cortisone into the area where I feel pain and it works great. They did it about 5 years ago and I just needed another shot about 3 months ago. It usually works for quite a while. Ask your doctor if this is an option for you. Good Luck...

ya know, I've had really good luck with over-the-counter Icy Hot creme. I use the no-odor version if I'm going out, but the stinky one works better I think. Or maybe it's all in my head. But it works just as well as ibuprofen for me, and a lot safer.

I have it in my right hip and when I am having problems, I have to sleep on my stomach. I cannot sleep on my sides or back. Puts too much pressure on it.

I used to tell my daughter my get along hurt she thought that was the funniest thing. Sorry about your pain. I use a light thingy I saw on an informercial a few years ago it is called blue light or something like that it does help somewhat if you use for an hour or so I use it laying down while I am reading.
