I also have questions about Padukah. I will be going for the first time next spring. Would I have problem driving through town and parking? are the shuttles a problem. I want to do site seeing in town also so would it be better to drive. If I get to the quilt show early in the morning are their parking lots full? Any helps or suggestions on what not to miss would be appreciated. Thanks

1. It's Paducah! If you get to the quilt show early, there is usually parking around. It's an easy town to get around in and you are close enough that you can walk to Eleanor Burns' store from the show and there are other good places. I never rode the shuttle, we drive (we live in KY) and go wherever we want to. Hancock's of Paducah is one place you must see. You can park there and catch the shuttle, too, if you don't want to drive downtown.

I hope you make it, it's a show everyone should get to attend at least once!

I went with a friend in 2010 and we took shuttles. We stayed at a Marriott across the highway from Hancocks. We were there 5 or 6 days, and there was one day where we could not catch a shuttle for 2-3 hours. They were packed completely full when they arrived, so we'd wait for the next one, which would also show up full. Other than that one day (which I think was either Friday or Saturday) the shuttles were fine.

You have to schedule some time for the quilt museum, of course, and we also went to Caryl Bryer Fallert's studio & store. The thing about Paducah is things are spread out, not all in one place like Houston is. So if you want to see everything, you either plan on taking the shuttles, or you plan on driving/parking/driving/parking.

I have been three times and drove our own vehicle each time. No problem driving around the town or parking. Everything is with-in easy access. So many things to see and do. Hancocks of Paducah is one of my favorites and don;'t forget the Kentucky Oaks Mall. They have vendors in the center of the mall and a quilt in every store window. When I went we spent five days.

Shuttles were easy and ran frequently from the quilt show this year. There are shuttles from the quilt show that take you all over town. The entire town works very hard to make things easy for the quilters. There are volunteers everywhere to help you if you need it. It is crowded in at times, but very friendly and not hard at all to deal with.

Went to Paducah recently on way back from Florida.......Was a bit disappointed in Hancock's...prices as high as LQS around here and altho the quilts in the museum are awe inspiring and the building itself is very nice-love those stained glass windows......we were there on a Monday and was surprised to find out stores/museum did not open until 10am....I guess that's the south........so we sat in the parking lot for over 45 minutes.....Did not go to any of the stores in downtown area.....kind of leary, let' just say it is like any other large city......surrounding area may be a bit dicey...........you must know where you are going.........and parking.........

Where are you from???? I'm from Portland, you can't get much further from the south than that, and nothing opens until 10am here, either. Offices and Starbucks, yes. Malls, stores, museums, LQS, no. They ALL open at 10.

I just got back from Houston and THAT show doesn't open until 10, either.

I went last april 2012, i had no problem driving in or out, i know their are camp grounds but i didnt use them, so not sure how far away. Driving in town was not bad at all, i usually got their pretty early and didnt have trouble parking, and thats when i would eat or walk around, until things got moving, in illinois stores are open all nite or they open at the crack of dawn. I also thought prices were extremely high, i expected bargins, but i was wrong, Eleanor burns had several stores at differant places throughout the town. At the show i picked up lots of trinkets to give away, these were still on the pricey side but very cute for swaps and such.
I know a lot of people go back year after year, but i will not be one of them.

This year one of the shuttles actually ran to one of the campgrounds. You might want to check into that if you are going to camp. If you can get into that campground, all of your parking concerns would be solved.
