I just got back from Houston and THAT show doesn't open until 10, either.
I live in Illinois about 60 miles west of Chgo....and stores around here open at 9am, banks at 7am-drive up......so to have all the stores in their downtown area including the museum open at 10am was a bit strange for us, I don't know about Starbuck's-don't go there.

Just came back from Paducah. Tured the Quilt museum, shopped at Elwanor Burns Quilt in a Day shop ( all fabric is $5 yd) and Hancocks of Paducah (yes they are a little high, but lots of good fabric). Also went antiquing and found a shop owner wanting to take my FW's to sell during the April show for me. She gets higher prices than I can sell here due to the annual show.

Fort Masaac state park in Metropolis IL ( across the river from Paducah, about 15 minutes away) has camp sites.

I drove last year and did not really have any issues.

In Texas, most retail stores open at 10:00am. That would go for museums too. Grocery stores are either 24 hr. or open at 8:00am. Hardware stores open at 8:00am. In all the places I have lived, I have never seen clothing stores, fabric stores, shoe stores, etc. stay open 24 hrs. Guess that would be handy for some people, just never seen it.
