I Remember when
#21
* Buying white milk at school for 4 cents but chocolate milk was a nickle!
* Hopping on the bus to ride downtown & spend the day riding the "moving stairs" up and down O'Neils....the top floors were pretty narrow & shaky. Having lunch at Woolworths and window shopping...
* Making clothes for my troll dolls & Barbies. Using shoeboxes for houses, popscile sticks for furniture.
* Playing outside until dark, 4 square, freeze tag, TV tag (any kind of tag, lol!!)climbing trees, black topped playgrounds, hot metal slides, leaving the doors unlocked at night...
* Standing on a chair to wash dishes...wonder how clean those were!?!
* Riding my bike alone to the library, even though it was MILES away. Filling the basket with as many books as I could carry. Reading, reading, reading!!!!!
We lived in a house under 900 sq ft, 3 kids~ 1 bathroom. I didn't know we were poor, didn't care about what I didn't have. Luckily the TV (all 3 channels) didn't tell me either.

I remember S&H green stamps and the books to put them in.
Saving them in a big coffee can and then sitting at the table licking and pasting them into the books.
Soon as each of us girls ( 2 of us) and mom had all the books we needed for what ever we wanted out of the catalog we went to the redemption store and got it.
I remember drive in movies in the back of dads pick up truck.
Eating fired chicken and stuff back there watching the movie.
Dad would put a mattress back there for us kids to lay on and him and mom sat in lawn chairs.
Watching the Sunday night Disney movie at 6:00 P.M. we got to eat in the living room. That was a big deal for us!
We got to have Pop that night!

Do you remember those straws you could drink your milk with that turned the milk either chocolate or strawberry as you drank? How about those Fizzies, that you dropped in a glass of water that turned the water into a bubbling flavored drink?
