I live in Massachusetts and I have seen a flock of robins at least 3 or 4 times in my neighborhood. I was shocked as we usually don't see them until close to spring. A friend of mine is a bird watcher and she told me that there are robins that stay here during the winter. That never used to happen before so I just don't know what to make of the whole thing.

Well, Hubby saw five robins on our property on January 5. We live in central New York State. Pretty much unheard of. Maybe there are a few hearty clans of them that are wintering over. With the long, unseasonably warm Fall we had, perhaps they just never got the memo that it was time to fly south. Maybe its a New York phenomena?

We have one that has been coming to our heated waterer, We have no idea what they eat when there is so much snow on the ground as we don't see him at the feeders.

Those robins must have flown south for the winter and were confused by the snow there. Poor darlings!

Not a hope of seeing one any time soon. We are heading into another week-long deep freeze tonight- brrrr. They will be a welcome sight when the weather does decide to warm up. This has been the snowiest and coldest winter in Ontario for quite a few years.

We have a family tradition that the first person to see a spring robin gets a pie of their choice...to be shared, of course. My daughter is carrying the tradition on with her children. Last year I saw one in late January here in Illinois...hubby said it didn't count, must have stayed the winter. The year before I saw on in mid-Feb. But this is the time of year I start to keep my eye out. Generally we see them by early March. It cheers my soul. I'm always eager for winter to end.

I live in Kentucky where we have Robins year round. Robins don't migrate from here. According to this article, most do not migrate. http://www.learner.org/jnorth/tm/rob...Wintering.html

Flocks of robins arrived here in North Florida around the first part of December.
