Thumbs down emergency situation-my sewing room light won't work

I have no idea what is wrong with it and no one can come out to look at it until next week. When I turn it on, it just shuts off after a few minutes. I flip the switch off and then back on and it comes back on. So it's not the light bulbs (plus there are 3 and what are the odds all 3 would go out at once). DH checked the wires at the switches (it's on a 3 way switch) and they look okay. All other outlets in the room are fine so it's not the breaker or the wiring. It's a mystery. But in the meantime he doesn't want me to use the light and it's getting super annoying having to get up and flip the switch every couple of minutes so I guess I'll have to limit my sewing to when it's daylight.

hmph.

Can't you "borrow" a lamp from another room until this is fixed?

I had a hall light that did that and DH replaced the switch and it worked fine.

My DH suggested that maybe it's the switch or the fixtures

I would not use a light like that because the problem might be short in a circuit somewhere and it could start a fire. Hope you get it fixed soon.

Don't use the light until probably the fixture is replaced. Find a floor light and an extension cord while you wait for the repair.

Believe it or not I do not have a separate lamp to use. I have a small desk lamp but it doesn't throw enough light to be able to sew easily. We've always had overhead lights and then I have my small desk light for extra lighting. I don't want to buy a lamp just for this so I'll have to limit my sewing to days. If I had to I could roll my desk to another room but there really isn't room for it anywhere else.

By the way it's not just sewing. All of my papercrafting supplies are in there. My ironing board. My cutting table. All of my supplies. Last night I decided to do some organizing and wrap fabric around boards and I had to have a flashlight to find my fabric, boards and pins and then tote everything to the living room and wrap boards on the floor. It sucked all the fun out of it. LOL

Ok - sounds like this is an overhead fixture of some sort? Are the bulbs incandescent or florescent? It sounds like it might be the ballast in the fixture. Is this something your DH or a handy neighbor could replace? Most hardware/home supply stores will carry various ballast types and are pretty cheap. Can't hurt to replace the ballast even if it doesn't fix the issue long term.
