Not bad for just the price of a newly released hardback. I can also go to that publisher's website and get free downloads of one or more books by any of the participating authors they publish.

On my Kindle, I got a plug from the Kindle directly to the wall plug. I haven't had to charge it since I got it. And I download books directly from Amazon right into the Kindle in a couple of seconds. I want to make a quilter cover for it too, but haven't had the time yet.

Have the Nook...In love I tell ya!!
I didn't care for the keypad at the bottom of the Kindle, and didn't care for the fact I couldn't purchase books from anywhere but Amazon, or that you can't change the battery on a Kindle,
but the real deciding factor was the fact that I can borrow library books! Between the freebies BN was giving away all summer, and the other free books (classics and other places people have directed me to) I have spent just under $40 so far to buy books and currently have over 200...
Yes, my quilting time has been SERIOUSLY impacted!!!
Either will make you happy.....just do some thorough reading and understanding and go and touch them at Best Buy...

I just got my Kindle and love it. Don't know how to do a whole lot but there's so many free books on Amazon that I haven't bought one yet. They download very fast and it hasn't been re-charged yet; I've been using it daily for about a month. It says a charge will last 3 months-does any one know if this is accurate? I just have the small, cheap new one that just came out (wifi only, not 3g).

my daughter gifted me with a nook with a light cover ... nice!!! my daughter and i can share books -- what a deal!
it's a good reader and i loaded my sox and amigurumi patterns in a 4 gig sdhc card. it even shows what chart work there was. now, just having my patterns portable makes this reader worth it's weight in gold. lol .... it's so light!

Well, I received my Kindle yesterday and immediately downloaded several free books (and no charge for whispernet as long as you aren't downloading pdf documents). It was ready to straight out of the box, registration was already done. Reading the instructions took very little time and I feel pretty confident about getting it to do what I want. I started reading last night, and stayed up way too late.
Also, I discovered that audible.com is part of Amazon so those wonderful "theatrically read" audio books can be put on the kindle too, through the fast whispernet. Just plug in the ear buds (I use the ones that I got for my ipod.) and you're ready to go.
I love it.

I've had my kindle for about 10 days now, and I can't put it down! There is a leather case available with a cute looking built in light (that you pull out when needed) which runs off the kindle battery, but it's nearly half the price of the kindle itself - perhaps that's an option for a Christmas present.
I haven't had to recharge the battery yet, but I read that you can prolong the time between charges by turning off the wireless connection when you don't need it.
I also haven't paid for a book yet either, and neither have I paid for any internet downloading, it has been free with my $0 purchase of the books.
