Default Latest Project

Between the wind and the rain, I have been trying to complete this project. I removed about 2/3 of the grass in the front lawn (California drought) and have been trying to figure out what to replace it with. This came about because if there are two cars in my driveway, you can't get past unless you walk in the yard. Also it takes up room that I don't have to plant something in. It is 20 x 3 feet.

Nice walkway! They have some really good artificial grass for outdoors now. I might do a chunk of that and then some natural plantings like Yukas and cactus surrounded by river rocks.

that's a fabulous looking solution to the walk along the driveway. your yard is the perfect blank canvas. i would love to come play in your yard! and i agree with tartan. i grew up in socal and my daddy told me about californias' drought cycles when i was a teen. xeroscaping would be my choice for the front yard. large river rock, and larger "boulders" in among low growing drought tolerant plants. i have way too much lawn where i am now, and tho it's getting lots of water this year with melting snow and rain, i'll be digging up more & more every year. large green lawns are a look of the past ..very 50's looking IMHO & so much work! good luck with your project & i hope you post more pics as it progresses.

Can you post further pics of what you're doing too.

Looks great, easy maintenance too, just spray for weeds. We did the same thing only made ours 5 feet wider and had rock and big holders brought in and planted native drought tolerant plants.

Great idea. We did a similar thing in our 2 car driveway because everybody was complaining about having to step in mud (we live in Florida)
