Hi there!

What exactly is pinterest?
What's it's objective? How do you use it?
Those that are members, what do you post there?
I have been hearing a lot about it and I have gone to the website but it's still a bit confusing to me.

Thanks.

Well I use it as an online bulletin board. When I see something online that I like I "pin" a link to a board on my page. Then I don't have to print it out or try to remember it. When you go to the home page and aren't signed it you will see the most popular pins. When you are signed in you will see things pinned by people you follow. Like I have a friend who makes jewelry and I follow her so when she pins something it will show up on that front page for me. If you choose to follow people who like things you like somtimes they find stuff you wouldn't have seen on your own. I don't usually repin, I try to follow the link back to the original post and pin from that. Does that make sense.

Ditto. Plus I use it to "pin" my own QB pictures so I can easily view them all at once and go to the details with a single click. I often refer back to my own work when I'm trying to select quilting motifs for new projects.

It is kind of like the "bookmark" feature here on the QB - but you can store ideas, recipes, cool pictures, anything that you want to look at again - you set up an account there and then start to "pin it" on anything that catches you fancy and put it on your account. You can then have "boards" on your account - the same as here on the QB. I am just starting on Pinterest and have these different boards - QUILTS - PICTURES - PEACOCK PICTURES - RECIPES. i am branching out a bit and can now follow other people who collect pictures/ideas for quilts.

Wendy, Nikki and lauriejo:
Thanks soooo much.

I really need something like this.
I used to print quilt pics from QB and other places but it used a lot of paper and ink.
Then I started keeping just the website addresses in a folder but that's also inconvenient as I'm not always sure what's at the site without going back to the address.

Do I need to be a member of Twitter or FB to join Pinterest? I am not a member of either of those sites.

Just bear in mind that what you save is duly noted and tracked by the company as well as by others. If you are okay with that, then enjoy it for all its worth, but personally, I'd rather keep my bookmarks and folders and save things to my own hard drive.

I'm kind of fanatical about my privacy on Facebook, too, so I'm just that way...

What I like about it is the QUILTS. Thousands literally, one lady had 11,000 quilts pinned, another lady had over 4,000 quilts plus tutorials.

I really love Pinterest lately. I use it mostly to pin various pictures I love (mostly beautiful stuff).

@logcabinfran I love that too!

I second this....hence you won't find me posting anything on Facebook. And I back up my files and folders on the computer with a flash drive. We also set up an external drive and store pictures files and folders there. And the important stuff. Which is all backed up on discs and separate flash drives, labeled for future use.
