Love, love, love my Nook Color. My husband uses his iPad to download books. Love it for travel and at home.

I was thinking of getting one for my husband. Upon checking, we discovered that the books he reads (sci fi) are not yet available on Kindle. I suppose that would be my only question ... are your favorite books and/or authors available on Kindle?

I received a Kindle for Christmas from my kids and I absolutely love it. My husband and I have just returned from a 13 day cruise through the Panama Canal. I read 4 books on my Kindle while we were gone. It was so much easier taking the Kindle than hauling four books.

I have the less expensive Kindle and I love it. I can read it all night with no eye strain. I'm in my later 60's and wear glasses. I like that I can read a sample for free and get reviews of books I may be interested in. A lot of downloads are 9.99 or 11.99 for newer books. I think almost everyone in my book group has a Kindle and they all really like it. We are all about the same age. It is really easy to use.

Me, too. :| :oops: When I moved a few years ago, one of the things I could hardly wait to unpack were my books! Before I could do that, however, I had to buy some bookcases. Day after day I had to walk past my beloved books as they sat in those boxes, and it made be so sad. Once my books were placed in their new bookcases, I would rub my hands along their bindings, pull one from the shelves, open it up, stroke my hand over the page, and read and read and read. With a real book I never have to worry about some electronic problem or dead batteries or dropping it and breaking it, etc. I guess I am in the minority, but for now, I like it there. :wink:

My sister got my 80-year-old father one for Christmas because printed material makes him cough so much now. He's enjoying it very much. He's a little afraid of it, but he likes it. We help him download the new books.

They are a bit out of my interest at the moment - I have read most of the free books that come with them and they cost around or over $400, so seem like an expensive toy to me. One book at a time costs a lot less.

My hubby got one and he just loves it. He said it is the best.

I love my kindle! I've had it about a year. I use it when I'm reading for a while. I also read books on my iPhone, but the backlight makes my eyes all wonky if I read for very long. The phone and kindle automatically sync to the furthest page, so if I read a little while waiting in line somewhere---my kindle will open up to the same spot. I love the convenience factor, new releases are the most fun. No travel time to the bookstore!

I have had mine over a year and it is never far from my side. I love this thing. I told my husband if the house caught on fire it would be the second thing I would grab (he was first). I get lots of free books in my e-mail from a site called ereaderiq.com, they also will track book prices. The e-ink is very easy on the eyes, so lightweight. This is really the best gift I have ever gotten. If someone had asked me before I got it if I wanted one I would have said, never, I love books, I love the library, I love bookstores, I love the feel of books. You can find lots of free books, low cost books. If you really want to learn more you can go to one of the interest groups, I follow the Kindlekorner on Yahoo. Read some of these for a few days, they discuss all the e-readers, not just Kindle and you can ask questions that might help you make your decision.
But if you are interested in magazines and quilting books you need to go for a color reader, those do not translate to the e-ink.
