Default Terrycloth & Binding?

I bought a yard of terry cloth to make into a large towel (well now two small towels) ... I had some leftover binding from a quilt so I thought I could use that to bind the fraying end of the towel. It looks aweful. Is there a trick to this?

Is it cut the same size a for fabric? I'm guessing it should be wider.

I would try to turn under the edges twice, like store bought towels are made, and sew . Just my thoughts on it.

I have used cotton to bind terry just as I would bind a quilt. I cut the strip 2-1/2" wide, fold in half and press, sew to terry then fold over and sew down.

you didn't really tell us just why it 'looks terrible'? what went wrong?
normally i have just made regular binding- fold in half, pressed, machine stitched to one side- folded to other side- stitched down == just like nycquilter does=
without knowing what exactly went wrong on yours we really are not much help i'm afraid.
