I thought maybe OCD, but the vet never mentioned it. She's really leaning towards the Lupus...I'd rather have that then cancer.

She's doing better, with help from the constant wearing of the cone and the antibiotics and steroids. I talked to the vet on Monday and she told me that Serena tested positive for Lyme Disease, but it's not the root cause of the skin irritations. We decided to go ahead and have her blood sample tested for Lupus. A very expencive test, running at $165. We're still waiting on the results of that test. Everything else came back fine. Once we finish this antibiotic treatment, we'll start a 28 day sycle of a different antibiotic for the Lyme Disease. I do have to bring her back some time next week for a follow-up visit with the vet and that's when we'll start the treatment for the Lyme. That's all i really know for right now.
Thanks again for asking, you were my gentle reminder to let everyone know :)

Does Lupus cause the skin condition that she is suffering from??? One thought, if it is an allergy symptom, could her dogfood manufacturer have changed any of their ingredient(s)? You would have had no reason to read the ingredients each time you've purchased a bag.

I know that you said that Serena doesn't have a food allergy, but you might consider trying a dog food without corn as a top ingredient. Our black lab developed skin problems when she was several years old. After talking to the vet, we tried a lamb and rice dog food. That solved the problem of dry itchy skin. There's quite a controversy about whether corn should ever be used in pet foods, but it is a cheap source of protein, so most brands contain it. Some breeds are more susceptible to skin problems.
