I love Pinterest but when I got the invite to join and found out you had to be on Facebook or the like, I guess it's not for me. I am stubborn in not joining Facebook but it made me mad that you had to be a member to join. It should be my choice whether or not I want to be on Facebook and the fact that I can't be on Pinterest either made me MAD! What does one have to do with the other?

Can someone please post information as to exactly what the site is and how it works? I read the one post regarding it being a storage unit and it sounds interesting but would like more information as to how it works & why there is a waiting list.

    Thanks

Ah, but you DON'T have to be on FB to join. They put that up front because so many of the younger crowd are into FB and social networking and having EVERYTHING all linked up. You should be able to join using an email address. That's how I did it.

I would describe it as an online visual bookmarking site. I can "pin" pictures I see anywhere onto my own board. The pictures are stored there for as long as the picture remains on the original site, and when I want to go back to the original site, I click on the picture that is stored on my board. For instance, if I found a recipe for banana bread, I pin a picture of that project to my board. Pinterest lets me choose which picture if there is more than one on the page. When I decide to make the project, I go to my Pinterest page, click the picture, and it will take me back to the page I was on when I pinned it. You can organize your pins into categories, like recipes, quilts, pretty things to look at, places to visit, etc. You can look at other people's pins and pin them to your board, and other people can look at your board, but they won't see any personal information, just your name and pins. And you can use a pseudonym, if you want.

I understand how pinterest works, and I started using it, but like everything else, it's a huge time sink, and then I never look at it again. A waste of time.

I got an initial email saying I was on a list - and then nothing. I was more curious about it than anything.

I didn't have to wait, you might want to go back to the site and sign in again for an invite! They have become very busy and you don't have to use facebook, or twitter or anything else! I wasn't that impressed when I joined, just did it to appease a girl friend! NOW I am addicted! I love Pinterest!

I think maybe it's a marketing ploy? If people think it's "exclusive" they want to get in.
