If you use longer paper then you need to use wider also. If you only use longer paper the points do not come out real pointy. The ends are more squarish. So you can do it if you don't care about pointy stars. :D

it says, as long as the paper is in the same proportions, it will work..so, if you double the numbers i.e. : 17x20 and do the same folds it will work!

I remember when I was teaching the 2nd grade over 45 years ago my class was reading a story about Betsy Ross and the first flag and it mentioned how she took a piece of material and cut the star. I sent my kids home with an assignment to see if they could figure out how she did it. The kids all asked their parents and I had all kinds of phone calls on how it do it. None of the kids came back with the answer, so I showed them and they were all excited to go home and show their parents that they knew how to make the star. I ran into one of the kids about 20 years later and she told me she has had more fun showing off how to cut the star.
