All this time -- since I've been quiltmaking -- I've used the regular foot for my Singer Touch 'n Sew, aided by blue masking tape on the machine to mark the 1/4 inch. But yesterday while at Jo Ann's, I bought an actual 1/4 inch foot. Got home, tried it, and it does NOT fit my machine, even though it's supposedly a Singer product (marked Singer with their well known logo) and the packaging indicates it fits all Singers.

Back to the blue masking tape, I guess......or using my Brother 450Q to piece, which means I have to set it up on a table somewhere, when my trusty Touch 'n Sew lives in its own cabinet and is handy at all times.

It depends on the machine. For my 5.5mm stitch width Berninas, I love the #37 foot. For my 9mm Bernina, the new 97D is fabulous. I also like the Pfaff 1/4" foot, which I use on my Baby Lock Quest Plus and on my Pfaff Select 3.0. The Quest Plus was a "twin" machine to a Pfaff model, so the feet are compatible.

If you are near Sullivan Mo there is a fabric store that sells genuine Janome feet for a great price. I paid between 6.99_ 13.99 for most of them. I think the walking foot is 19.99. It is called Melears.

I have a Pfaff and a Brother machine and like the idea of being able to move the needle. I use a regular foot and then move the needle over to get the 1/4" - or over further for the scant 1/4" and line the fabric up with the edge of the foot, and if necessary back the seam gauge right up to the edge of the foot to create sort of an "L" for guiding the fabric. It works for me.

I absolutely love the #57 foot by Bernina. It did more to improve my quilting than all of the classes I have ever taken. It is a little bit expensive, but it is worth every penny.

The best, IMHO, is the one I have for my old Viking #1 plus...perfect....straight sided, both edges, now on my newer BL the foot has a curved jog on the left side that keeps catching the seam allowance as I sew thru intersections, and the flange one is ok on straight seams, but there again if there's a dog ear intersection or anything, it will get hung up.....and I paid for this aggravation ..

I use the one I got for free when I purchased my Janome years ago. I only have a problem with it when I forget to switch feet and try to zig-zag. Talk about operator error! LOL I use it all the time.
