3 hour batik quilt top
#61
I had insomnia last night, and instead of working on the numerous UFOs I have hanging around (or cleaning house), made a throw quilt top -- 3 hours from beginning to end. Now to decide whether to add another border in batik or just sandwich, quilt and bind as is. It is currently 44 x 66" - a decent size but looks a bit unfinished to me without a coloured border. Advice, anyone? I've decided this is a Christmas present so need to finish it by tomorrow.

Thank you for all your replies. I ended up going with a narrow inner border of a goldish-yellow (it looks washed out in the photo, but is a richer colour) and another black border. The next time I'm going to use a bit wider outer sashing and bind it with pieces left over from the batiks. I like the idea of a "rainbow" border.
As to block size, the coloured portion is 6.5x10.5" with two 2.5" wide solids on each side, making a 10.5" block. I like this size as it goes together quickly but looks difficult.

Thank you. That's what I'll with the next one. To clarify: I pieced the top in 3 hours. The bordering sandwiching, quilting, and binding took at least that long again if not more. But it is a quick top to put together. Am now working on one with brown and will probably do a third with dark gold.
