Block placement software (or app)
I've been making Dr. Seuss blocks willy nilly for quite some time. This Saturday is the church quilt day so I'm bringing my blocks and putting them together. The blocks are in 3 categories: wonky, 9-patch, and pinwheel.....all the same size. I have 40 blocks (but I'll make 2 more to make it 6x7). Is there an app to help me arrange the 3 categories evenly throughout? Thanks in advance.

Nothing beats IRL placement audition!
Put them on your design wall, whether it is a real one, the floor, a wall, or top of a bed this week.
And keep shuffling them around until you get them to where the view is pleasing to you.
Take a photo, in case they get shuffled en route to your sewing day.
Then you can be ready to sit and sew
....... just be sure to check you are putting them in the right order as you do so!
Good Luck! and enjoy the day with your friends.

I agree. I have EQ7. but do my layouts on a table or bed... it's a lot less work that way. In EQ, you'd have to take a picture of each one, or draw each one to get an accurate picture.

I agree with the others here...audition for real vs using a computer. I think, ultimately, it will be quicker for you than trying to load everything into a computer program or app and wiggle it around. And the photo idea once you get things where you want them is a great tip!

Since you have 3 categories, you could start your audition using from stacks 1.2 &3. So 1-2-3 over again and gain until you have the first layout. You might like it right away or you might want to adjust, but you'll be on your way.

As others have said in prior posts, get a cheap lined table cloth, hang a sheet on the wall, put a board over your ironing board and cover it with a sheet and arrange your blocks on that, or use the top of your bed. Take pictures of the arrangement so you'll have a reference point, pick up the blocks in the order you want them and number them so you'll have them in order when you reassemble them to sew them into strips or however you wish to put them together. If you have a design wall, leave them in place for a few days. I found one block turned in the wrong direction in a very important quilt.
