It's kind of my signature in my quilts. I love flannel and it makes quilts so snuggly.

I use flannel on the backs of all of my Linus quilts. It makes them so cuddly and less likely to slide off of the bed or the child's lap especially if they are in a wheelchair etc. I purchase it by the bolt when it is on sale at Joanns.

Flannel makes a wonderful, warm and cozy backing for a quilt.

I agree with NJ Quilter. But be sure to pre-wash the flannel !! It shrinks more than cotton does....

When using flannel do you quilt as normal...is it harder to work with? What about for hand quilting?
    Thanks, Jp

I used a flannel backing on a queen size quilt and put 80/20 batting in it, too. Be sure to wash and dry the flannel 2 or 3 times because it shrinks terribly. I hope you bought extra - LOL. BTW that quilt is so heavy I can hardly fold it but it sure is warm. If I use a flannel backing again I won't put batting in it - we don't need all that here in TX.

Definitely doesn't slide around as easily on my Horizon as some other fabrics.

I love to use flannel as quilt backings. I always pre wash them. I buy flannel sheets. LL Bean sheets are really nice, don't pill and they sell flat sheets separately, so you don't have to buy a whole set. You can usually find LL Bean coupons too. I work at Kohls and I will be watching for Kohls flannel sheet sets to go on clearance. Then the prices are really good! I usually grab king size because then I have enough to back any size quilt....and it's cheaper than buying fabric by the yard and you won't have to piece it! I didn't like the flannel at JoAnns....it pills!
