Who's the gift from? You or your daughter? I say if it's from you, then you make what you want. If it's from your daughter then the puff quilt is in order, but---explain to your daughter how tedious it is and that she needs to help since the gift is from her! You never know, her best friend may have admired a puff quilt and wanted one for her baby.

Because my son in law is stationed in Nebraska (but he left for the desert yesterday), I am not close to my daughter. But I am going out there next week for about a week and a half. So - I am going to combine your suggestions. I am going to pack it up, work on what I want to work on, take it with me to Nebraska, get her to help me stuff and sew what we can while I am there, then finish it before I go up there again in Aug. before my school starts. Thanks - I have some projects I can't wait to get started with.

Sherrie, that sounds like a good plan. It will let your daughter have some first hand experience in what it takes to make this adorable baby quilt. Quilts are beautiful, but they don't just fall out of the sky! I got my daughter involved in quilting for much the same reason. Her first quilt was a king-sized one for her bed!!! She's having it quilted now. And she's already started a paper-pieced wall hanging for her bedroom. The quilt bug bites hard!!! Good luck with your project and have a wonderful summer. Teachers deserve a rest!

One time a very poor man approached me and asked if I could fix his quilt that his mother had left him. I agreed, but should have looked at it first. It was in HORRIBLE condition. I hated doing it, but felt obligated. When I returned it to him, he could only give me $20, but offered me an opal ring that was his mother's. I took the ring because opal is my birthstone, but gave him back his $20. Years later, I had the ring appraised, and it was worth over $500!! (and probably double that now)
