I have never done a quilt with corner blocks. This lap quilt rather screams corner blocks to me.

Here is where my thinking has gone so far. The border will be 3 rows... WOW, (same as in the center of quilt), next a strip of inch squares, and finishing with another WOW. I would like to make the corner blocks another 9 patch. (5 white, 4 coloured 1 1/2" pieces).

My question is....do I make the 9P's separately and join them after adding the border strips, or do I add the 3 - 1 1/2" pieces to ends of each border strip?

Here is "most" of the centre.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions.

Patti

Can be done either way but to be more accurate, I would put the corner blocks on the ends of the opposite ends of the borders. What will your three peiced border be--what fabrics or will you vary those too?

I think I would do the 9Ps separately, stitch the border strips together and stitch the 9Ps to the ends of the border strips after the borders are attached and squared off.

Thanks ladies. Franie.....the outer and inner border will be WOW, the centre border is all the 1 1/2" squares that didn't have at least 4 the same to go into the 9P's. I have about 30' of 1 1/2" pieces put together!!!!

to add corner squares you make the squares the same size as the border you are adding them to; stitch borders to sides of the quilt top; add your corner squares to the ends of the top and bottom borders then attach (if you press your seams toward the border you will be able to lock your seams and make good matchpoints when attaching the corners.) the side borders the seams would be pressed -out- toward the border...the top and bottom the seams are still pressed toward the borders but the makes them pressed toward the center (away from the corner squares) making a good match up.
beautiful quilt, can't wait to see pics when it's all done!

Thanks for this!!! My brain was still assembling this in different ways. LOL DH is away tonight, so hopefully I can get at this after work.
