Discussed this whole thread with my husband last night and he says this is definitely not a good idea. He works with wiring and electricity in his job and explained that even though you do not see it, every time you switch the light on or off it does create a spark and you are taking a real chance with that spark catching the fabric on fire. When I said that I would cover it with Mod Podge which would secure the fabric to the switch plate so it would be less likely for the fabric to come in contact with the wiring, his thought after reading the bottle is that the Mod Podge is highly flammable and would be more likely to cause a fire. His advice: DO THIS ONLY AT YOUR OWN RISK and it won't be being done here in our house. He said if the switch plates have to be decorated to just paint the front of them instead. Much safer.

Those look nice with lace around the edge, too. I used to have one in my laundry room/pantry.....haven't made a new one since a remodel.
don't forget, you can change your screws to dark ones, and they'll blend in better with darker fabrics.
