Creativity....where do you find it?

i'm assuming the star is in the center of the quilt. I think I would consider those things that were special mom and me times and draw from that. Mom and I were shoppers so I might do a continuous line drawing of some shopping bags. You see how the process works. And it keeps it personal.

We are all "wired" differently for sure.... I do love looking for ideas on the internet but as a fairly new quilter, I still am pattern driven but find great joy in picking fabrics.
I also enjoy taking a class now and then and join in on "open sewing" evenings at my LQS. Networking with other quilters can often get your creative juices flowing.

I play with pen and paper, not pencil and paper! I doodle and zentangle and color with crayons...the point is to relax and let the lines flow. Sometimes it is a mess but inside the mess is a portion of a dsign I like. I then repeat that part of the design over and over until it belongs to me and off I go to the Longarm or the sitdown machine to stitch. I try to do the drawing to limber up and ease my tension before starting any FMQ. I hope this helps.

Creativity -- I don't know where it comes from. I see or look at something and all of a sudden images start appearing in my brain. They don't always work and sometimes they morph into another image -- one which usually works or is totally different. It basically just happens but sometimes it doesn't; especially when I am trying too hard. Apparently, it just has to flow. This is the only way I can describe it. Sometimes, I just have to say "Enough already"

Can you hand quilt this? I think it's easier to work in "errors" when quilting in this fashion. It will give you time to reconnect with your mother as it takes longer. I've done several quilts made by people no longer with us here and have enjoyed that time with their work.

YOUR HEART! I close my eyes and just look around in my heart and BOOM! There it is~! It may take a little while, but it is there. You can look in your garden, your sewing area, a favorite part of your City - I love Smith Avenue looking toward the Capital and Cathedral and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
It's true - we are all "wired" differently, but it all comes to one when we realized how wired we really are. Edie

Don't discount finding inspiration in other people's works. In my earlier post I said I like to go to quilt shows. Lots of times I'll see a quilt and think "Hmmm, what if I used this color instead of that? What if I did this instead of that? Oooh, I like what she did here, I think I could take this technique and twist it and do something really cool..." And on it goes. Just because you're finding inspiration in other quilts doesn't mean you're copying them.
