Die cut shapes - butterflies, stars, teddy bears, etc.

I thought they would be cute to place around the border of a baby quilt until I thought about how much work it would be to blanket stitch around all those small curves. They really aren't made for needle turn. The stars and trees are small to begin with and if they were turned they would lose their shape. Sewing two together and letting the edge get raggy sounds like a good use. Just have to figure out how to use those for something besides a garland. Sure not buying any more die cut shapes. better to make applique shapes and have control and enough fabric for a turned edge. Thank you for all of your suggestions and ideas. Gerry

I bought the diamond shapes and cut them smaller to use in my 999 fabric Charm quilt. Lots of different fabrics for a small amount of money and not much waste. I'm very happy with my purchase.

I did a baby quilt once using the die cut bears. I traced them onto Heat N Bond Lite and cut that out, then ironed the bears onto it. Then ironed them onto the quilt where I wanted. I handstitched the blanket stitch around them. It was sev. yrs ago and has been through many washings & still in good shape.

Okay it is late but this idea just popped in my head. Why not put them in your border and then sew about 1/4 from the edges and then leave the edges raw and let them rag? I saw a quilt charisma did using squares this way and it turned out so cute and looks snuggly with the raggy raw edges.
