Do You Use This Attachment?
#1
I own a Janome 6600P and bought a stitch in the ditch acufeed foot this past summer. I like it a lot but am still marking my quilt tops so I can sew 1/4" inside my ditches. I like the puffy look it gives. I thought to save myself the marking time by buying the new 14" acufeed foot/plate.
Do any of you have this attachment? How do you like it? Does it save you marking time too?

I have the quarter inch plate for my Viking walking foot. I would see if the dealer will let you try it first. The guide on my foot extends down so far that you really can't sew a quarter inch from a seam, it has to hang over the edge of the fabric. It wants to touch the hole plate, not ride in the seam. Hope this isn't too confusing...

Use a regular foot -- not the SID foot for the 1/4" in design. The SID foot has a guide that will hang up on your fabric when you go out of the ditch. I used a regular foot, aligned the left side of the foot up to the seam, then adjusted my needle to make it 1/4" to the right. Try marking a piece of paper with two lines, 1/4" apart, and line your needle up there. The Accufeed idea is a good idea however, it just doesn't work well in all cases. If you pin well, then you won't have a problem.

My 1/4 inch foot is made to ride along the edge of the fabric. I would go to your local dealer and ask what they would suggest and if you can try it before you buy. They are usually very accommodating. The feet for my machine are sometimes kind of expensive, and I would be very upset if I bought a foot that I couldn't use.
