We do on the TV setup. Computers are all lap tops. Do NOT plug in in bad weather. I only plug in my sewing machine when in use. Unplug as soon as I'm done. Do NOT use in bad weather. I'm sure, a surge protector can't hurt though.

YES!!! My machine is worth more than all our computers combined. It is always plugged into a serve protector.

my iron and daylight lamp are also plugged into surge protectors.
What is not and should be is the refrigerator.
We almost never get electrical storms here though.

YES! My machine costs 3x what my TV did, it needs to be protected.

That said, I usually unplug it entirely if there is a storm (or sometimes during the week when I know I can't sew.)

Yep we use them for all our electronics. Makes the rush before a bad storm a little easier to pull one plug for multiple items than to pull many. I also use it as an on/off in addition to the switches on various machines when I'm out of the room (plus I unplug the iron).

Years back we did lose a bunch of electronics to a lightning strike, though this was before I started quilting so fortunately no machines lost.

Cheers, K

Oh yes, on EVERYTHING electronic: TV, DVD, VCR, Bernina, Rowenta, computer, cordless phone. I lived in an area that was unincorporated and boy did we have lots of electrical outages. My neighbor and I both lost our phones with answer machine because they both got fried when the power was restored once.

My sewing machine is left unplugged unless I'm using it. When I do plug it in, I plug it into a surge protector.

YES ! Its a small investment to protect my machine. Just the insurance hassle alone to replace in the event of a surge .. makes it a no brainer for me.

Yes, I have a surge protector on it but I also unplug it if there's going to be a big storm coming thru. I figure the protector can handle the little bumps but not a major one.

Yes for all electronic things including the sewing machine. We lost a TV once when we had a power surge before we used surge protectors. Thankfully that's before we had computers, and I always unplugged my sewing machine back then.
