I need an easy pattern for my uncle. He is a pharmicist so I plan to applique the RX symbol on one block but have no idea of a pattern to use. Any suggestions is appreciated.

To my mind it is primarily the fabrics that determine whether it looks masculine or not.

The one I'm currently working on for my oldest DS is the 7th Mystery Train Ride from the Blocks of the Month or Week here on the quilting board.
I'm using flannel in dark green, rust, dark brown, navy plaid and tan.

I agree about the fabric making the difference. Batiks are great - there are plenty that aren't flowery - leaves, geometric, plainer looking ones. Stonehenge is another great line for guys. Marbles and other tonals are great too.

The box on a box pattern is easy and looks masculine with darker or muted colors. In fact I think it is more about the fabric selection than pattern in giving a quilt a manly look!

Use any pattern you want. The masculinity depends on the fabrics you use. Warm wishes always works in such cases.

Bento box in black and red or more scrappy by using shades of gray to black and scrappy non girly reds Or you could do greens, browns and creams

BQ is a quick easy pattern. Here's a link to a simple tutorial on this board.This particular one uses some t-shirt squares, but the basic BQ pattern just uses regular fabrics. There's a picture of that one if you scroll down through the pics in the tutorial.
