Default Eco-friendly PLA Fiber batting question

I bought a twin size package of this stuff several years ago - think it was on sale at JoAnn's - it's from mountainmist and says 100% PLA fiber made from renwable resource corn. I'm wondering if anyone has tried it - quilted, washed, etc - and how it's held up and how it feels and if it's hot like polyester. I don't want to risk a quilt with it - my bravery apparently ended the minute I got home LOL! It feels sorta like polyester to me with the light weight and just the overall feel of it.

moving stuff around and it's unbelievable how much poly batting I have-I live in Houston and it's too hot here for poly except for maybe 20 days a year! sigh...

Lots of information in this article - http://www.naturepedic.com/info/pla.php

Unfortunately, PLA fiber is polyester, but made entirely from plants.

I haven't tried this myself, but I do know from doing a research article that you cannot put a corn batting in the dryer. So be sure it is something that will not be dried that way. You may want to add a label to it saying to hand wash and line or lay flat to dry, depending on the project you have in mind.

LOL!!!!! Didn't even think of that!! Good one!! You can't get corn or bamboo hot in a dryer because the fibers melt. Those have to be air dried.

thank you! don't think I'll be using this - no way I'd remember til it was too late about the dryer...didnt' know that about bamboo either. sigh. I think I may donate all my poly batting if a local group uses it for charity quilts - it's too hot down here for poly and I have plenty of 'winter' quilts for the short time we have winter here. can't believe I bought the stuff..sigh...but thanks so much for the help. going to read that article now!

If you were to read the information on the link that dunster gave you, you may find out some very good information about this batting.
