I glue baste and don't have a problem with being able to reuse the paper pieces. They don't really "pop" out, you do have to be somewhat careful. Different glues may behave differently, also. I use sew line glue.

I have found that if I press them with my steam iron I have no issues getting the papers out. You could also use a metal stiletto and run it around the back side from the raw edge to the fold.

I jump stitched each corner of the hexes to make a double bed sized grandmothers garden...... Dumb me, I wish I had thought to glue baste...... I've learned so much on this forum. You quilters are great!

I use freezer paper and I usually don't have any trouble removing the papers.
