My DW and I own EQ6 and are just starting to go thru the book. DW has told me that the software is able to do the project I want to do but I can't see any steps to do it.

Attached are two pictures of my new project. One is the finished look I want and the other is the tracing. I want to make a twin size quilt of this design not a quilt with a number of blocks with this design. I'm excpecting to be able to design the quilt using full square blocks, half square block triangles and what ever else needed to have one large "B" in the middle of the quilt. I also expect EQ6 to give me a cut list of the different shapes and colors that I choose. Am I stuck on Fanatsy Island or can EQ6 do it?

I'm not sure about EQ, I have my own problems with it.

This is how I personally would tackle it. Since you've already drawn it out on graph paper I would decide how big my blocks should be, draw them in and start piecing. Sort of like counted cross stitch. Each of your little squares would equal one block. You could also take 4 little squares and make one block. Not sure if I'm explaining it right.

However, someone else here might come up with how EQ would do it and I'll keep watch here and see!

I like having EQ6, but I don't use it enough to remember how to use it. I am at the stage of life that I want to "just do it" not have to learn how. I wanted to use it yesterday to figure out the yardage for a quilt. I would have had to draw out the block and plan the quilt. I just bought what I hope is enough and I'll make creative decisions if not.

you can do this in EQ. subdivide the drawing you've done on the graph paper. draw each block. put them together using the "Custom Set" option for the quilt layout.

unless you're a geometry whiz, you will need to tweek your blocks until they fit together the way you need them to. it'll be time consuming but if you stick to it, you'll learn a lot about the program and have the quilt you want when you're done. :-)

I would look at it as one big block, since it's easier to draw in the block view than to assemble a lot of blocks to make a quilt. Section the block into however many blocks you want to end up with, then start drawing your "B" into the block. When that's done and colored, go to the quilt view and make a quilt with only one block - plop your block into it. This isn't really what EQ6 was designed to do best, but I think it will work.

Here is the response I got from the EQ6 Forum.

"I think applique would be easier too, but piecing would work fine. It doesn’t sound like he wants to do curved piecing, I think he wants to change the curves to half-square triangle blocks.

So set up a horizontal quilt with the number of blocks across and down that will be in the finished quilt. Set the size of the blocks to the desired size of one of the individual squares. It looks like there are about 33 squares across in the sketch, so I’d set each block to 2”, giving a finished width to the quilt of 66”.

Get the half square block from the library, set that into the curved spots in the quilt, rotating where necessary, and color the quilt."

I will probaly tweek this a little because I was thinking maybe doing 4" blocks so the HST's won't be so small. I'll keep everyone posted on my progress.
