My DH just received the latest Wood magazine (Better Homes & Gardens; Issue 207, October 2011), featuring a wonderful "workbench" that I think would make a great cutting table for us quilters! I'm not 100% certain the 34 1/2" height would be just right for everyone, but you simply must see this table!
Here's the link, if I did it right: http://www.woodstore.net/fo3wo.html
I've asked my DH to please save this issue for the day when I get a sewing room of my own.

I guess I did the link correctly!
I should have my DH do an estimate of the cost.

Mine is the equivalent of two kitchen cabinets that hubs custom made for me. I love it!

I purchased a kitchen island on wheels from our local unfinished furniture store. It is a perfect height for ironing, cutting and even basting projects up to crib size. It also has a large shallow drawer and two shelves underneath. The hardest part was assembling it. I know it was less than $100.

I love, love, love this idea and the fact that it can be rolled to the side or another room so I can lay out larger quilts on the floor is so awesome. I went to buy the downloaded version and they added shipping, what is with that?? I am going to call on Monday and ask, but this is definately perfect even if I have to figure out how to make it myself. Thanks or sharing.

I have no idea how they figured to charge you shipping! A phone call is a good idea.
That MDF board makes a nice flat surface, but it is very heavy. I hope you will have help on the project.
I also like the mobile and folding aspects, as my sewing room [when I get it]will probably be serving as a guest room.
