Fabric Price Increase
#11
I paid $9.95 a yard today at my lqs. Don't think I will go much higher than that. Have to use my stash and back with muslin, scraps or sheets. Of course the price of cotton is rising so the sheets and muslin prices will too. Soon no one will be able to afford to sew. We'll be doing like our grandmothers did and use old clothes etc. I am making 2 baby quilts for twins-crib sized-and they have cost me $146.00!

Stopped at LQS this am. She has her prices marked on the bolts as she receives them. The earliest bolts were marked $8.00, the next $8.99, and the most recent were $9.99. I appreciate the fact that she didn't raise all her prices to match the new increased prices. Lord knows what the next batch of bolts will cost!

I have been in the promotional products business for the last 5 years or so. We deal in t-shirts and other things. I say that because I started getting letters from wholesale manufacturers about 6 months ago warning of price increases due to the increase in cotton prices. It has gone up about 15% every couple of months since then. Lots of suppliers kept their prices steady until they ran out of stock. Now that they are re-ordering, it costs more so our prices are going up. Here in California we've been paying about $7.99 - $10.99 per yard for 100% cotton, and think we're getting a good deal if it's less than that! I always use coupons for our fabric shops - and watch for sales. By the way, I'm dissolving my promotional products business and looking forward to more time with my sewing machine!
