Fan quilt directions
#1
I'm wanting to do a Fan wallhanging and have searched this board and google.
I would like the block to finish at about 8" or so-not a fan of bigger blocks. What would the blade dimensions and foundation block be? Thanks so much, Karen

1. draw an 8" square on paper.
2. make your curve for the top and bottom of the fan. I might use a large plate to give me the curve I'd like for the top and a smaller one , or bowl or cup, for the bottom curve.
3. fold/divide it evenly into the number of blades you want.
4. cut a blade as template.
5. add 1/4 inch all around it as seam allowance.....
and that will be your blade size.

I learned to quilt back in the day when there were not a lot of tools, so we learned to improvise. Now it seems like there's a gimmick for everything you can think of, and some it isn't even *worth* thinking of! I rarely buy them.
I have no qualm about using the right tool, though, but it seems ludicrous to me to have six different 8" square rulers, for example; or papers for making 5" half-square triangles when they can be so easily done with just 2 fabric squares; or a $10 pattern for a quilt made up of just squares and/or rectangles when graph paper and a little calculator are my best friends!
Sew on!
