A note about 1/4" seams: Very important, but, if you are not an experienced sewer, really difficult to do when you are making your first quilt. Less than 1/4" seams will allow the fabrics you sewed together to fray and seams will then open. Greater than 1/4" seams will make the quilt smaller. The perfect 1/4" seam is wonderful, but if that isn't happening with your first quilt, a deeper (more than 1/4") seam is better. as long as it is consistent.

I always say to get a QIAD.(quilt in a day ) book from Eleanor Burns.at any quilt shop. Very user friendly and will walk you thru every step.fairly reasonable and a starter kit from Wal-Mart.which is a mat.ruler and rotary cutter. Cmaras123''

If you can afford a single book, let me recommend The Better Homes and Gardens Complete Guide to Quilting. It is a wonderful reference book that you will turn to over and over again. The text is plain and the pictures and diagrams are excellent. You should find all your questions answered there.
