Many people can just see the markings more clearly. I love the frosted rulers.... plus they seem to be the one that slips the least... for me anyway.
You should go to a quilt store and put one on top of some fabric to see if you like the way they look. I like them on darker fabrics as well as light

i like mine (Olfa Brand) for all the reasons given, PLUS the fact that they are made with a slightly thinner sheet of plastic. they're still very sturdy, but my cuts are significantly more accurate than with my other favorite rulers.
on my Olfa rectangular rulers, the angle lines radiate from the horizontal middle. that really comes in handy! :-)

I love mine, too (also Olfa). If you've never seen one, I can understand why the "frosted" idea is confusing. They aren't like frosted glass that blocks out some of what you see. They're more like non-glare glass that just blocks the shiny reflections. I think they're much easier to use and much more accurate than any others I have used.
