the markings show up well of light and dark fabrics, you can still see through them easily and they do not slip as easily as non-frosted rulers.

I have a frosted ruler. I like the way it grips the fabric.
The only thing I don't like is they have 1/2" on each side.
I'm not used to that & I've made mistakes.

Hi, Thought I would give you a tip...I went to a craft store and got some colored sand then I sprayed some glue on my ruler then added the sand let it dry you can also do a second coat. It works GREAT!!! at first some fabric may stick but after using a bit it is really nice also it don't let your fabric slide plus you can see your ruler really good. Jan

Made my own by spraying with clear satin polyurethane and it cuts down the glare on the ruler from overhead lights. Love it!
